Business as Usual: Commercial and Civic Activity

This exhibit explores the commercial and civic structures of the Plaza Midwood neighborhood. It includes the business district, Harris Teeter grocery store, fire station, library, and school. Each was impacted by the revitalization efforts of the Neighborhood Association in the late 1970s through the 1980s. Initially, most were saved by the Neighborhood Association. However, unforeseeable struggles after revitalization changed the futures of these commercial and civic structures.
