Paul Chatham's street railway for his Chatham Estates development went bankrupt in 1918. Residents of that neighborhood and around the Charlotte Country Club hired automobile drivers to transport servants and other workers from Belmont switch of the Charlotte Street Railway Company line to their places of work.
