Plaza-Midwood neighborhood zoning report

Title

Plaza-Midwood neighborhood zoning report

Subject

Plaza-Midwood, transportation, planning, zoning

Description

As part of their efforts to maintain Plaza-Midwood (PM) as a stable neighborhood, the neighborhood association collaborated with the city council and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Planning Commission to review and revise zoning designations in the area. PM was especially threatened by the commercial zoning along The Plaza that could eliminate the larger estate homes built during the development of Chatham Estates. This problem had already affected other historic neighborhoods such as Myers Park, whose stately homes along Queens Road had been demolished to make way for multi-family apartment and condominium complexes.
