Community Events
The Plaza Midwood neighborhood has always been a tightly knit neighborhood. It is a place where you actually know your neighbors, and your neighbors are good neighbors. This is a place with a strong sense of community.
One of the reasons Plaza Midwood has such a strong sense of community is because the neighborhood hosts numerous festivals throughout the year. These events foster a sense of camaraderie and belonging amongst the residents of Plaza Midwood.
The 1985 Heritage Celebration was one of Plaza Midwood's largest events. The Plaza Midwood Neighborhood Association together with Kilgo United Methodist Church launched a day long celebration of the community's history. The event recognized community leaders and sought to foster community spirit by encouraging the neighborhood's "pioneers," or long-term residents, to mingle with some of the area's newest residents.
Though the Heritage Celebration only took place once, most of the other community events recur annually. The July 4th Picnic, Home Tour, and Winter Fling have occurred annually for at least 30 years. Newer events, like the Midwood Miles 5k and BikeFest, are quickly becoming new community favorites.
