Plaza Midwood Neighborhood Association

This report recommended the preservation of the Chatham Estates homes along The Plaza rather than rezoning the properties to business occupancy.

The Plaza Midwood Neighborhood Association succeeded the Midwood Matheson effort.  Through the late 1970s and 1908s, PMNA partnered with the city of Charlotte and local businesses to improve their neglected historic neighborhood.

One such effort was the fight against neighborhood rezoning.  Many areas of Charlotte, including exclusive Myers Park to the south, had suffered the effects of rampant zoning changes from residential to business.  Numerous historic homes were lost.  PMNA was determined to not allow this to happen--check out the zoning report to see how residents battled against these changes.

Plaza Midwood, Chantilly, and Elizabeth partnered to fight the routing of Independence Freeway through their neighborhoods.
