Independence Boulevard

Following World War II, Charlotte leaders instituted a city planning board and moved forward with the construction of a crosstown boulevard.  Independence Boulevard sliced through the Chantilly neighborhood just below Plaza Midwood.  An elevated limited-access freeway was constructed along the route in the 1980s, effectively dividing Plaza Midwood from its southern neighbors.
