Current Infrastructure

Today, the roads of Plaza Midwood serve as arterial routes between established neighborhoods and uptown Charlotte.  Central Avenue is still a busy throughfare occassionally interrupted by commercial rail traffic.  Its intersections with Pecan Avenue (Chantilly/Elizabeth) and The Plaza are traversed by both auto and pedestrian.

The Central Avenue corridor is part of a much-contested plan for a streetcar to run between Johnson C. Smith University west of uptown and the former Eastland Mall just beyond Plaza Midwood.  CATS bus routes 9 (Central Avenue), 17 (Commonwealth), and 39 (Eastway) currently service the neighborhood.
